Description
A delicious and cheesy treat made with breakfast sausage and topped with buttery biscuit dough.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 3/4 to 2 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 cup salted butter, melted
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Evenly pour melted salted butter into a 9×9-inch glass or ceramic dish that’s been coated with nonstick spray.
- Set your oven to 450°F.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the breakfast sausage for about 8 to 10 minutes until there’s no pink left. Drain on paper towels.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and granulated sugar in a medium bowl. Add buttermilk, mixing until you have a sticky dough. If it’s too dry, just add more buttermilk.
- Gently mix in the drained sausage and shredded cheddar cheese until everything’s blended well.
- Spread the biscuit dough onto the layer of melted butter in the dish. Cut the dough into 9 equal squares using a knife or spatula.
- Place in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes, turning it once halfway through, until they’re golden brown. A toothpick should come out clean from the center. If they’re browning too fast, loosely cover with foil.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- These treats are best enjoyed warm.
