Description

A delicious and cheesy treat made with breakfast sausage and topped with buttery biscuit dough.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 3/4 to 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Evenly pour melted salted butter into a 9×9-inch glass or ceramic dish that’s been coated with nonstick spray.
  2. Set your oven to 450°F.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the breakfast sausage for about 8 to 10 minutes until there’s no pink left. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and granulated sugar in a medium bowl. Add buttermilk, mixing until you have a sticky dough. If it’s too dry, just add more buttermilk.
  5. Gently mix in the drained sausage and shredded cheddar cheese until everything’s blended well.
  6. Spread the biscuit dough onto the layer of melted butter in the dish. Cut the dough into 9 equal squares using a knife or spatula.
  7. Place in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes, turning it once halfway through, until they’re golden brown. A toothpick should come out clean from the center. If they’re browning too fast, loosely cover with foil.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • These treats are best enjoyed warm.
